Increase Communication with Your Child
Here are several suggestions to build a stronger, healthier relationship with your child that involve no money and little planning.
- Read Together
- Take a walk together (bring the dog along and /or collect objects along the way…interesting rocks, leaves, etc.)
- Make dinner as a family
- Play a board game, build a puzzle
- Visit the local library
- Go to the park, throw a ball or Frisbee
- Play a math game(Yahtzee, or use dice to practice adding, subtracting or multiplying)
- Make puppets out of paper bags or odds socks…put on a play
- Have a music night…take turns listening to (or singing) each person’s favorite songs
- Brush/fix each others hair
- Eat dinner together (Turn Off the TV)
- Dance
- Fold the laundry together and talk
- Set the dinner table together
- Have each person name High/Low during dinner (best thing that happened that day/worst thing that happened that day)
- Make up a story as a family (each persons gets to say one sentence)
- Create art together (visit www.crayola.com for ideas)
- Hide an object in the house…give each other clues to find them
- Make up a story as a family…one person starts it off, each person adds a line
