Increase Communication with Your Child

Here are several suggestions to build a stronger, healthier relationship with your child that involve no money and little planning.

    • Read Together
    • Take a walk together (bring the dog along and /or collect objects along the way…interesting rocks, leaves, etc.)
    • Make dinner as a family
    • Play a board game, build a puzzle
    • Visit the local library
    • Go to the park, throw a ball or Frisbee
    • Play a math game(Yahtzee, or use dice to practice adding, subtracting or multiplying)
    • Make puppets out of paper bags or odds socks…put on a play
    • Have a music night…take turns listening to (or singing) each person’s favorite songs
    • Brush/fix each others hair
    • Eat dinner together (Turn Off the TV)
    • Dance
    • Fold the laundry together and talk
    • Set the dinner table together
    • Have each person name High/Low during dinner (best thing that happened that day/worst thing that happened that day)
    • Make up a story as a family (each persons gets to say one sentence)
    • Create art together (visit www.crayola.com for ideas)
    • Hide an object in the house…give each other clues to find them
    • Make up a story as a family…one person starts it off, each person adds a line
